COOL BEANS - Viable Cultures Tempeh

Cool Beans Tempeh - Bagged and ready to come to marketCool Beans tempeh showcases exceptional texture, flavor, and nutrition.  Such qualities are the result of hand-crafted tempeh with ten years of experience behind the making.

The soy tempeh features US-grown, non-GMO, certified organic soy beans.  These beans are grown without pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers.

The “specialty tempehs” feature organic soy beans and a rotating organic bean complement.  They are approximately half soy and half partner bean.  Viable Cultures has brought the following “specialty tempehs” to Asheville farmers markets:

  • soy–yellow split pea
  • soy–black bean
  • soy–pinto
  • soy–garbanzo
  • soy–black-eyed pea

Cool Beans tempeh undergo a complete, 24-hr culturation and maturation process  (often indicated by black spots or regions– a normal sign of finished, mature tempeh).

The tempeh is not pasteurized– it is fresh-frozen upon completion, with no pasteurization to diminish quality.

Cool Beans tempeh is sold in 8-oz. and 16-oz. blocks.  The tempeh is unpasteurized and frozen, found in the freezer section in grocery stores.  Suggested retail prices are $5.49 and $9.49, respectively.

The photos below document the transition of beans to tempeh-- growing in the green field at Peaceful Valley Farm, in Old Fort, NC…

what a field of soy

…the plants flower, develop pods, and make the beans, as the field turns to brown

though the field dies back, the plants produced many beans, now drying in the pods

here are the same soy bean plants, zooming in a bit
